This is a project created by the Flat Classroom project team and author Don Tapscott. Tapscott announced the first NetGenEd project at Flat Classroom Conference 2009. In this project students study the results of the annual Horizon Report and relate them to the characteristics of their generation from Tapscott's book "Grown Up Digital: How the Net Generation Is CHanging Your World."
Via wiki and a personal video students create a collaborative research report. In this project students assume roles such as project manager, assistant project manager and editors of the wikis. The project manager and assistant project manager report weekly to teachers through a survey type form to keep everyone apprised of any issues that need addressing. After students have arranged their wiki reports based on current research students then create a personal video or multimedia artifact. Then international teams of educators judge the final videos and present awards during an online ceremony. I think this particular project is good for students because they are learning about technology while making the project and studying the annual Horizon Report. This project can benefit students by teaching them about leadership skills from being a project manager or an assistant project manager. It benefits students writing skills and performance and presentation skills from the wiki and videos. This project has to be exciting for students because all students would love to win an award and if students do not win, it teaches them to find their problems and work on them.
